With a towering and festively decorated Christmas tree, the gold-domed Pompeian Room is even more dazzling during the holidays — the perfect setting for a program of French Baroque Music for the Season. For decades, the Aulos ensemble has performed annual holiday concerts in the medieval sculpture court at New York’s Metropolitan Museum. This year, the virtuosic period-instrument sextet will evoke 18th-century French celebrations of court and country with a program of conviviality and good cheer, culminating in a Noêl Provençal — a “wild, wonderful, colorful rustic dance” guaranteed to “leave you smiling” (Classics Today). Rameau, Couperin, Corrette and Balbastre. “Authentic Baroque performance at its best… If there has to be just one Christmas concert, this is it!” (New York Times)
Following the concert, enjoy a French-holiday reception, including champagne & Bûche de Noël.
