"Not for nothing" is this trio named after Tolstoy’s heroine, Anna Karenina — the life force she represents, and the "effervescence and litheness that underpins the trio's own approach" (Gramophone). Celebrated for its “superb sense of musical color and drama” (Süddeutsche Zeitung, Munich), this multiple prize-winning French ensemble makes its West Coast debut with Schubert’s masterful Trio No. 2 (in E-flat, D. 929), Ravel’s exquisitely sensual Trio, and Bernstein’s witty Piano Trio. The lavishly appointed Pompeian Room is the kind of salon that would have been familiar to Karenina, and the program will evoke her personality.
