Steven Ehrlich (2004)

Calidore String Quartet

Architect Steven Ehrlich’s home, with glass walls on three sides which open to the African-inspired courtyard, achieves his desire to “create an environment that would be transformative” and which embodies his “muticultural modernism”. Winners of the Grand Prize of the prestigious 2011 Fishoff National Chamber Music Competition and the 2012 Coleman and Chesapeake International Chamber Music Competitions, the Calidore Quartet is one of the most exciting new string quartets to appear on the horizon. Drenched in the cultural diversity of California, this group of young musicians will present a concert of genial Haydn (Quartet in G, Op. 76), intense, folkloric Bartók (Quartet No. 3), and Mendelssohn’s tribute to Beethoven, his String Quartet No. 2 in a, Op. 13.

Light reception.

This concert is sponsored by J.H.B. Kean and Toby E. Mayman.
