Thomas Gallant, oboe · Steve Larson, viola · Sally Pinkas, piano
To open our 37th season, this colorful combination of instruments brings together three outstanding artists who have performed in the great halls and festivals of the world. A pianist whose playing is “remarkable for its dexterity, color, variety of dynamics, and driving energy" (Boston Herald) joins a “supercharged, clear-headed, yet soulful” violist (The Boston Globe) and Da Camera favorite Thomas Gallant, an oboist “who unites technical mastery with intentness, charm and wit” (The New Yorker) in a program of works by Mozart (Trio in E-flat, K. 498, "Kegelstatt"), Schumann (Märchenbilder) and Saint-Saëns (Oboe Sonata). The afternoon sunlight streaming through a rare Tiffany dome of 2,836 pieces of gold favrile glass provides a special glow for their virtuosic and engaging music-making.
A special season-opening champagne reception with the artists accompanies the concerts. Docent-led tours of historic Chester Place will be available throughout the afternoon.
This concert is sponsored by J.H.B. Kean & Toby Mayman. |
